Spiritual Program Coordinator
Volunteer Position
Ocean of Compassion Buddhist Center (OCBC) is seeking a
dedicated volunteer to serve as
Spiritual Program Coordinator (SPC).
This is a unique opportunity to offer service in a spiritually
enriching environment, supporting the flourishing of Dharma in
our community.
OCBC is a fully volunteer-run center offering in-person and
online programs in universal education, meditation, and
Buddhist studies. Guided by the advice of our Spiritual
Director, Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche, our programming is rooted
in the Mahayana tradition and aligned with the vision of the
Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition
(FPMT).
We are searching for individuals who feel inspired to
volunteer service and work alongside the Center Director,
Resident Teacher, and Center Board, to establish and implement
the center’s programming vision in support of our thriving
Dharma community.
Key Responsibilities
- Program Coordination & Implementation: Plan the logistics and implementation of spiritual programs, meditations, ritual practices, and touring teacher events.
- Regional Collaboration: Coordinate collaborative programs, schedules, and resources with other FPMT centers.
- Teacher Care: Support the resident geshe with study program schedules, and coordinate travel, lodging, and care for visiting teachers.
- Promotion: Contribute content for program publicity, including newsletters, website updates, and social media posts.

Volunteer Coordination:
Support volunteers who assist with:
- Class communication and registration
- Hybrid & Technology support
- Study materials and ritual items
- In-person and online classroom hospitality
- Teacher hospitality
- Community Support: Help foster a welcoming environment for newcomers and long‐time practitioners through thoughtful program coordination.
Qualifications and Skills
We welcome applicants who feel inspired to serve and grow
within a Dharma community. Training and support in all
aspects of this role will be provided, and you will be
joining a warm, collaborative team.
Candidates should have:
- Dharma Knowledge: Good understanding of FPMT study, practice, and Mahayana Buddhism, particularly in the Gelug tradition.
- Commitment: Strong connection to FPMT, the vision of Lama Zopa Rinpoche, and His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
- Organization & Technology: Excellent organization skills, attention to detail and familiarity with Zoom and Google Workspace
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work harmoniously with a diverse group of people, embodying patience, teamwork, and a bodhicitta attitude
- Service as a Spiritual Path: Dedication to service. Be available for a minimum average of 10 hours per week.
