Discovering Buddhism

Join a new cycle of Discovering Buddhism — a fresh opportunity for students of all backgrounds to explore the foundations of the Buddhist path together.

The two-year FPMT foundational-level program is offered in a hybrid format, taught by our resident teacher Geshe Tenzin Legtsok, and our beloved teacher Venerable Angie Muir. Explore an overview of the 2-year Discovering Buddhism curriculum offered from June 2026 to June 2028, hosted collaboratively by Ocean of Compassion and Land of Medicine Buddha.

Become part of a new cohort of students to learn, grow your spiritual practice, and study with our wonderful teachers.

Module 6: All About Karma

Learn the essential facts about the law of cause and effect in relation to actions and their results. Generate a clear understanding about how karma works. Discover effective tools to accumulate merit—the cause of happiness and success—and purify mistaken actions done in the past. Explore ways to become adept at dealing with life more effectively and thereby take control of your future.

It’s very simple. But what you have to know is from what source your actions come. Once you do, you’ll see that you are responsible for what you do; you can determine what you do and what happens to you. It’s more up to you than to your circumstances, friends, society or anything else outside you.

— Lama Thubten Yeshe, teaching on karma at Chenrezig Institute

Ven. Angie Muir

Born in Scotland, in 1970, Venerable Angie Muir obtained a Bachelor's Degree in 1992. Feeling disillusioned with her prospective career path and life ahead of her, she left Scotland and combined travelling with work in Asia for 3 years until in 1995 she felt a calling to go to India to explore meditation and find her life path. Within a few months she “had the incredible fortune due to some previous karma” to discover Tibetan Buddhism, and meet her main spiritual teacher Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche (of almost 30 years) and become ordained.

Venerable Angie has been a Buddhist nun for over 25 years. During this time, she served at Lama Zopa Rinpoche's residences in the U.S. for 13 years. In addition to doing various personal retreats, she has offered service, teaching, and leading meditation at other FPMT centers.
