Puja is an essential practice in the Tibetan lineage of
Buddhism and a powerful way to cultivate merit, purify
negativities, and deepen our connection with the Three
Jewels.
At Ocean of Compassion Buddhist Center, pujas such
as Medicine Buddha Puja,
Cittamani Tara Puja,
and Lama Chopa with Tsog
are offered regularly to support the
community’s spiritual growth.
This course offers a clear and approachable introduction to
the meaning, purpose,
and methods of Buddhist puja—both in group
settings and at home.
In this course, you will explore:
- What puja is and the meaning of common pujas offered at OCBC
- The benefits of engaging in puja, individually and collectively
- How to choose a puja based on your needs and intentions
- How to set up a simple puja altar and practice with confidence
Ven. Angie will also share how pujas support the spiritual
path, relate to purification and merit-making, and create
powerful conditions for healing, protection, and spiritual
growth.
This course is ideal for individuals who:
- Are familiar with the Stages of the Path (Lamrim) teachings as presented in the Discovering Buddhism program.
- Have a keen interest in integrating Tibetan Buddhist practices into their daily life.
- Are curious about the purpose and structure of pujas commonly offered at FPMT-affiliate centers
- Want to feel more confident participating in pujas — at the center or at home
Born in Scotland, in 1970, Venerable Angie
Muir obtained a Bachelor's Degree in
1992. Feeling disillusioned with her prospective career
path and life ahead of her, she left Scotland and combined
travelling with work in Asia for 3 years until in 1995 she
felt a calling to go to India to explore meditation and
find her life path. Within a few months she “had the
incredible fortune due to some previous karma” to discover
Tibetan Buddhism, and meet her main spiritual teacher
Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche (of almost 30 years) and become
ordained.
Venerable Angie has been a Buddhist nun for over 25
years. During this time, she served at Lama Zopa
Rinpoche's residences in the U.S. for 13 years. In
addition to doing various personal retreats, she has
offered service, teaching, and leading meditation at other
FPMT centers.
