This is a hybrid event, and we are using the Zoom video conferencing system for online participants. Please register below to receive your online access information.

You are warmly invited to join us during the most auspicious season of the Tibetan Lunar New Year — Losar Monlam — for a special Meditation & Recitation Sit-A-Thon on Sunday, March 1, from 9:00 am–4:00 pm.

This joyful, merit-multiplying event will be held both online and in person at the Center, so everyone can participate.

During this powerful time, you can generate merit for yourself while helping to support Ocean of Compassion Buddhist Center (OCBC) in its ongoing mission of offering the Dharma to our community and beyond.
Our long-term aspiration is to raise enough funds by 2035 to purchase a permanent home for the Center — a heartfelt wish of Lama Zopa Rinpoche for OCBC.

Buddha behind Flowers

How It Works

  • Decide on the number of hours you will sit in meditation and/or recite mantras or sutras (you can do both meditation and recitations).
  • Choose your favorite meditation object/topic and sutras and/or mantras to recite. Bring your own texts or use those at the center.
Find Sutras and Dharanis on the FPMT website.
  • Sit all in one go or break up your hours into chunks.
  • Collect pledges/sponsorships from your family, friends, and contacts for your chosen number of hours. You may use the sponsorship request template below as an inspiration.
  • Your donors will pledge $25 or more per hour.
  • Online Zoom participants can choose to keep their cameras on to feel part of the in-person sitting group.
  • Donate your collected funds on OCBC's Losar Fundraiser Page.

Why Participate?

This community Sit-A-Thon is a beautiful opportunity to:

  • Deepen and refine your meditation practice while accumulating merit.
  • Purify the mind through mantra and sutra recitation.
  • Practice generosity by fundraising to support the Dharma’s presence — both in person and online. You accumulate generosity merit by ensuring the Dharma continues to be available.
  • Vastly multiply the merit during this especially auspicious Tibetan Losar period.
  • Create merit for your sponsors through their support of the dharma.
  • Drop in for as many hours as you wish and connect with fellow practitioners united in supporting OCBC.
  • Fundraise for OCBC and accumulate generosity merit by ensuring the Dharma continues to be made available.
  • The purpose of this fundraising event is to build a fund to fulfill the wishes of Lama Zopa Rinpoche to have a permanent home for OCBC.
  • Our fundraising goal for this event is $25,000.

Donation Options

If you are unable to participate, you can support OCBC in the following ways:

  • Donate/Sponsor a participant directly.
  • Give directly to our event goal.

All donations — large or small — will be gratefully accepted and will support us in our goal of fulfilling Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s wish for OCBC to buy its own building.
You may donate online through PayPal or credit card (use donate button below), or by cash or check.
