Sutra Remembering the Three Jewels Recitation
Wednesday, June 11, 2025
6:30pm – 7:00pm PDT (Pacific Daylight Time)
in-person only
Program Category: Buddhist Prayers and Practices
Saka Dawa Duchen, one of the four great holy days in the
Tibetan calendar, marks pivotal moments in the life of
Shakyamuni Buddha—each a powerful display of enlightened
activity for the benefit of all sentient beings.
On this sacred day, the merit generated by virtuous actions
is said to be magnified 300 million times, as it
commemorates Shakyamuni Buddha’s three major life events,
according to the vinaya text
Treasure of Quotations and Logic.
Reciting the
Sutra Remembering the Three Jewels
on Saka Dawa is a powerful way to deepen one’s connection to
the Three Jewels and accumulate vast merit. We will be
reciting the sutra together in the gompa.
This program will be followed by the
weekly drop-in meditation.
Everyone is welcome to join.
Other recommended practices for Saka Dawa:
- Shakyamuni Buddha Puja
- The Sutra of Great Liberation — highly praised by Lama Zopa Rinpoche for its immense benefits — is another excellent sutra to recite on this special day.
- Ksitigarbha Ten Wheels Mahayana Sutra from the Great Collection — Rinpoche frequently emphasized the extraordinary power of prayers to Ksitigarbha, noting that even reciting or thinking of his name carries immense blessings.
