Sunday Meditation

led by our Lay Sangha

Sundays, 9:00am – 10:00am, Pacific Time
in person at the center

Following the meditation, stay and connect with the community over tea, coffee, and light snacks.

Program Category: Meditation

Our Sunday meditation sessions provide an ideal environment for new students to learn how to meditate, and for seasoned meditators to deepen their practice.

We use meditation to work with our minds and to cultivate the potential of the mind to experience more happiness. Both neuroscience and medical research have studied the effects of meditation and discovered many benefits of this practice. These include stress reduction, lower blood pressure, increased attention, less anger, greater positive mental states, and an increase in our capacity for peace and happiness. Beyond that, meditation is an essential part of our spiritual practice if we are wanting to attain spiritual realizations.

No prior experience meditation is required.

Our Meditation Leaders

Ven. Angie Muir

Born in Scotland, in 1970, Venerable Angie Muir obtained a Bachelor's Degree in 1992. Feeling disillusioned with her prospective career path and life ahead of her, she left Scotland and combined travelling with work in Asia for 3 years until in 1995 she felt a calling to go to India to explore meditation and find her life path. Within a few months she “had the incredible fortune due to some previous karma” to discover Tibetan Buddhism, and meet her main spiritual teacher Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche (of almost 30 years) and become ordained.

Venerable Angie has been a Buddhist nun for over 25 years. During this time, she served at Lama Zopa Rinpoche's residences in the U.S. for 13 years. In addition to doing various personal retreats, she has offered service, teaching, and leading meditation at other FPMT centers.

Don Isaacson

Don Isaacson is an advanced Dharma student having followed the FPMT Basic Program courses in person for many years, and the FPMT Masters Program online, 2008 to 2013. Don currently serves on the Board of Directors at Ocean of Compassion Buddhist Center and at Vajrapani Institute in Boulder Creek.

Ania

Ania is a dedicated dharma practitioner, inspired by Insight/Theravada tradition and the Spirit Rock Center. She has been teaching mindfulness and meditation at a local outpatient recovery treatment center since 2010. Currently Ania is a second-year student of the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program, a two-year training program taught by Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach to teach mindfulness and meditation.
