Lama Zopa Rinpoche recommends taking the Eight Mahayana Precepts, 24-hour vows, on days on which the karmic effects of positive actions are multiplied, on Buddha days, full and new moon days and on days with solar or lunar eclipses. These dates can be found on the Liberation Prison Project Calendar.
Please join us in the Ocean of Compassion Virtual Gompa for an ideal launch sequence on these Merit Multiplying days. Precepts are taken before sunrise, before there is enough light to clearly see the lines on the palm of your hand. Please join us on these days to take Precepts before dawn, and then return for Morning Prayers just after sunrise. People who would prefer not to take Precepts may join for morning prayers. Anyone who has not taken precepts from a qualified preceptor at some time in the past should write to spc@oceanofcompassion.org for instructions on taking precepts from Lama Zopa Rinpoche via a video that was made for that purpose. |
A booklet compiled by Lama Zopa Rinpoche with the Ritual for Taking the Eight Mahayana Precepts may be downloaded from FPMT.
People who would like to follow along with the text used for the morning prayers should visit the Foundation Store and make a small donation for a pdf copy of the FPMT Retreat Prayer Book. Here is a link for your convenience: https://shop.fpmt.org/search.asp?keyword=fpmt%20retreat%20prayer%20book This is a free event. Donations are appreciated.
