Calming and Focusing the Mind — Shamatha Half-Day Retreat

with Emily Hsu

Saturday, January 9

12:00pm – 5:00pm
A focused mind is indispensable in order to do anything well, and the spiritual path is no exception. Calm abiding (shamatha or shi-né) meditation is an excellent way to achieve this. And on top of that, we develop a calm, stable mind and emotional balance.

In this half-day retreat, we will practice calm abiding meditation using various objects of focus (such as the breath and the nature of mind). We will also learn the proper foundation for this type of meditation, and how to meditate with kindness, gentleness and relaxation.
